Totally Killer — Review: A Fun, Solid, Time Travel Slasher

I don’t know what it is, but anytime I see a film about to be released on a streaming service that looks good, I still have many reservations. Yes, there are terrific streaming films, but when the company doesn’t push for a theatrical release first, it’s usually a 50/50 shot if it’s actually going to be good. Fair or unfair, that’s how I’ve grown to feel over the years. One of Prime Video’s latest releases in Totally Killer was one that had my attention, and after viewing it, I want to first just ask the question, why wasn’t this in theatres? As far as horror/comedies go, this is one of the best in at least the past few years. Here’s why I believe it deserves your time if you’re a fan of this genre.
Back in the 1980s, Pam Hughes (Julie Bowen) lost all of her friends in a massacre by a figure known as the “Sweet Sixteen Killer.” Flash forward to the present day and her daughter Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) happens to stumble across a time machine that sends her back to the 1980s on the day that her mother’s friends were murdered. realizing where she has travelled to, she makes it her mission to prevent the killer from accomplishing his plan. The tone is as if a classic slasher film crossed paths with a Scream film, but it was made by the same people behind Hot Tub Time Machine. It’s a lot of fun and the horror…
