The Killer — Review: Fincher Does It Again
by KJ Proulx
David Fincher is one of the best filmmakers out there in my opinion. Whether you’re a fan of his style or not, most people I believe can still admit he’s got a real talent in this business. The Social Network is in the conversation for my favourite film of all time and many of his others are up there on my list as well. I’m drawn to his style and always look forward to the next project. The Killer is his latest directorial effort and while far from his best, this is yet another terrific addition to his catalogue. Now streaming on Netflix, here’s why it deserves your attention.
The Killer follows an unnamed assassin (Michael Fassbender) who accidentally kills the wrong person. Now on the run from his employers, taking down anyone who stands in his way, this nail-biting thriller had me on the edge of my seat. Much of this film is also told through voiceover and some viewers may grow tired of that, but the script was so well written by Andrew Kevin Walker that it actually acted as an accent to an already interesting character and story. Michael Fassbender sells the hell out of this character, giving one of his best performances in years. He hasn’t been around much lately, so it’s nice to see him returning in a few projects lately. I loved watching this film and he’s absolutely one of the reasons why.
