The Burial — Review: More Than Your Average Courtroom Drama

Films about lawyers and trials need to do a lot to impress me these days, simply because so many of them feel the same. It really comes down to the subject matter and whether or not I can connect to what the characters are fighting for. In the case of Prime Video’s release in The Burial, it absolutely did that for me. This is a film that hooked me with the issue at hand and had me rooting for the story to turn out a certain way. Here’s why I thought this film was great.
This true story begins with Jeremiah O’Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones), as his ownership of a funeral home is in jeopardy. Throughout his life, corporate overlords have been using inexcusable ways of putting his company down. This in turn sees O’Keefe hiring Willie Gary (Jamie Foxx) as his attorney, one of the richest lawyers around. Due to the fact that he has never lost a case, he puts his all into this one, which also sparks a friendship between the two of them along the way. I was already into the idea of taking down a billionaire who got rich from scamming people, but their chemistry together here made the film reach emotional moments I wasn’t expecting.
Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones are both fantastic here and the fun nature of how the film was made was infectious to watch. There are touching moments, moments that…
