Rebel Moon — Part 1: A Child of Fire — Review: A Watchable Adventure

When it comes to Zack Snyder's films, you can’t say he doesn’t go for it visually. Even on a lower budget, his goal is always to make his films feel grand. I have enjoyed a lot of his films, so I will always give his efforts a chance, even if they don’t look good throughout promotion. Well, his latest release, Rebel Moon - Part 1: A Child of Fire is now streaming on Netflix and I must say, even though I didn’t hate it, it’s one of his weakest films for sure. A lot of people are tearing this film apart and while I agree with a lot of the criticisms I’m hearing, I did find some good in it. I won’t be recommending this one, but I will say that I liked it just enough to watch the sequel coming in a few months, so there’s that.
Much like many Sci-Fi stories, Rebel Moon — Part 1: A Child of Fire is simply about a hero who needs to form a team to take down a looming threat. With that said, when you start incorporating robots, cantinas, laser swords, space travel, and a massive villain showdown, eyebrows will be raised. Personally, this is a film that knows it’s borrowing from all the classics and it runs with it, so I just chose to forgive it and try to experience it for what it is.
