Oppenheimer — Review: One of Christopher Nolan’s Best Films

I love when a biopic doesn’t play it safe. Having very little knowledge of the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, I was very interested in how his studies eventually lead to the creation of the atomic bomb. Being directed by Christopher Nolan, I was already going to check out the film, but it also exceeded my expectations. This is filmmaking in its purest form (especially today). Here’s why I believe this excellent film deserves to be seen in theatres.

Essentially, Oppenheimer is about the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and his influence in making the atomic bomb, but the way the film is structured makes it feel like so much more. Told in non-linear fashion, the audience is shown the trial afterwards, the planning beforehand, and the event itself. The majority of the film is a series of scenes with people talking in rooms, which may not seem all that exciting or appealing, but score did wonders for that. Many people complain about Christopher Nolan’s films being frustrating in terms of hearing the dialogue, but I never felt that here and the bombastic score sucked me in even more. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire three hour run time.

As always, Nolan directs the hell out of this film and brought out probably the best performance in Cillian Murphy’s entire…
