Ghosted — Review: How Did This Happen?

A rom-com, directed by Dexter Fletcher, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, which also doubles as a spy/action thriller? That all sounded great to me. Once I watched the trailer for Apple TV+’s latest feature film release, I was a little worried it wouldn’t be that good, but I think I still had my hopes a little too high. Ghosted is the worst kind of result this genre can produce. Now streaming on Apple TV+, here’s why this film (sadly) doesn’t deserve the attention.
Cole (Chris Evans) is struggling to find love. After a chance encounter, he makes a date happen with Sadie (Ana de Armas). Following their terrific day together, Sadie decides not to message him back or call. He believes there’s such a significant connection between the two of them that he travels to London to find out why she’s there. It just so happens that Sadie works for the C.I.A. and Cole must adapt to survive some crazy sequences. Evans has played the bumbling character before, but his performance didn’t work for me here.
I like de Armas and Evans a lot, and even though I liked their chemistry in the film Knives Out, I can’t say the same here. The screenplay they had to work with didn’t help either, but sometimes that can be salvaged with great acting. The scenarios that Cole continues to find himself in are just ridiculous and I never…
